The obituary for Captain David MAPES calls him a founder of the GOP. He was Emeline HUNTSINGER's second husband. It's possible that Samuel WILSON, Emeline's first husband, and Norman MASON, husband of Elizabeth HUNTSINGER may have been present at that meeting in 1854. HUNTSINGERS- Sylvanus (1800-1873) and Petrus 'Peter' Philander (1773-1869) believed buried at this site at Sacramento Cemetery near Berlin, Wisconsin.
HUNTSINGERS- Sylvanus (1800-1873) and Petrus "Peter" Philander (1773-1869) believed buried at this site at Sacramento Cemetery near Berlin, Wisconsin.
Researcher John D McCallum says the graves were believed to have been marked by two fields stones that weighed about 200 pounds each as noted in a 1976 reading of the cemetery. The stones are now gone and the large floral plantings cover the two graves. Family Bible says Sylvanus was buried in a cemetery on the banks of the Fox River, which matches this site. His daughter, Ann Huntsinger (Willard) is buried nearby. Albert Huntsinger was a founding board member of the cemetery in 1896. (Photo source: Paula Vaughn, Waushara, WI, USA.)
